Wacky, Wild, and Weird? The Pebble Can Be All Things

Wacky, Wild, and Weird? The Pebble Can Be All Things

Welcome to Wednesday: Writing, Women's Issues, and Everything in Between

Welcome! I am thrilled you're here, whether you are new or returning. Get ready for Wednesdays filled with writing, interviews, books, my usual wacky, weird style, or it might be serious about women's issues, whatever.

Lei: A Woman Who Lived 90+ Years and Taught Us What Strength Looks Like

But it's also an opportunity for me to tell you about one of my favorite women in my whole life. She was my great-grandmother. And her name was Lei.

She witnessed immense change and taught me about strength. She outlived three men, danced at my wedding, and inspired fierce independence.

She also inspired my deep commitment to kindness.

What If We Kept the Holiday Spirit All Year Round?

She told me, If we could keep Christmas for a day, why not all year? Now, this isn't a big spiritual thing. It's about how we act around the holidays, whatever holiday you celebrate, because we get excited. We feel anticipatory and happy, and we tend to be kinder, hold the doors open, all of that.

And her point was, why don't we act that way all year round? And so I'm going to keep this tree beyond Mardi Gras. I'm going to do it for all the holidays because I decorate my house for the holidays all year round, to the chagrin of my family.

The Mardi Gras Tree: A Southern Tradition Worth Celebrating

Now, those of you who are not from the South may not know that there is such a thing as a Mardi Gras tree. A Mardi Gras tree is a Christmas tree that you leave up from Christmas through Mardi Gras. After this week, but I just wanted to let you know what you were getting into so We're about to be in Mardi Gras season. And while I am living in Buffalo now, I am a southern girl and I love Mardi Gras.

Laissez les bons temps rouler!

You can find another special Mardi Gras here.
