Life Isn't Meant to Be A Snap
Share
Two years ago, I was going through a very rough time in my life. In that time, things got by me, and my refrigerator got more than by me. It got gross.
At the time, the snap makeovers were quite popular. The "before" would be ugly, messy, or disorganized, and without any show of the work involved, the star of the video would simply snap their fingers, and as if by magic, whatever problems there were, would be resolved. The "after". Shoes would be perfectly put away in proper Container Store boxes with labels, carpets would be cleaned with straight lines, and in my case, refrigerator shelves would be crystal clean with new lucite organizers with every leftover, bagged item, etc., put away in stacked perfection.
All in a snap.
I chose consciously not to do that. I wanted to show a more realistic, measured approach. At the heart of the pebble were little changes making big differences. There are many "after"s. Each "after" provides new joy, new relief. They will build upon each other.
Also, I shared the reality of my frig, because I felt it might liberate another of shame. Shame serves no purpose. Social media can wrongly make us think we are the only ones struggling. The only one with that unknown gunge holding a jar for an unknown period in the corner of the second upper right shelf of the refrigerator.
No Shame
After I showed my “no shame” and some progress, more time passed than expected. Life had filled yet again with obstacles. Some larger than I ever could have expected. That is life, though. So, I chose to show where I was realistically.
Still Not a Snap
Even with all the time, I was not finished, but I was progressing. I hoped this, then, and now would provide inspiration. The beauty of life is found in the solid progression and never giving up. It isn’t fixed in a snap, because...
it was never meant to be a "snap" in the first place.
