Following the Pebbles Home from Loneliness

Following the Pebbles Home from Loneliness

Two years ago today, one of my favorite guests, Daniel Findlay Belfield, returned. We discussed the film “All of Us Strangers” which he had recently seen, and had profoundly affected him. The discussion centered on the film’s themes of going home and identity. I was touched by Dan’s sincerity and vulnerability in our conversation

What is It to Go Home?

The walk home can mean a lot of things. To me, it often means a walk to the place where one feels most like oneself. Sometimes it is a literal walk, and sometimes it is more of a spiritual journey. In this episode, I am talking with my friend Dan about finding your “home” and how that home can center that journey.

For Dan, this journey has been very much influenced by the film “All of Us Strangers”. He identified with the main character, who is often isolated and lonely. However, Dan’s job as a railway worker required him to be customer-facing, and his growth as he has aged, has helped him push out of his comfort zone despite his social anxiety. As his friend, I have loved seeing his quiet confidence and self-acceptance develop. In fact, it has been one of the joys of this show to see it across episodes.

I hope you will watch the episode and share your thoughts.

Finding a Way Home and Beyond

In a beautiful update, since the area of this episode. Dan not only found his home, but he also found his path forward. He learned of a tribute short film of “All of Us Strangers” and auditioned. To my great pleasure, I am thrilled to report he was cast! Moreso, the experience opened up a dormant dream, and he has since participated in another project, an acting class, and begun creating videos for himself.

This is what great art can do. When it connects to the soul as this film did with Dan, it allows the heart and dreams to grow and expand.
