Earth Day Isn’t Just April 22nd

April 22nd is Earth Day, and we all rediscover our desire to recycle and use cloth napkins. Like January 1st, however, the resolve to save the world fades as the calendar pages turn. This is especially true the bigger the green resolution we make.

This is why I talked #earthdayeveryday on several episodes of “the pebble”, including this one with my friend Isabel. Life can be a lot, and it is so easy to look at the problems with the environment and say, “I didn’t do all that, so how could I possibly fix all that?”

Many Hands, Many Pebbles

You’d be right. You didn’t do a n-th of it. Nor did I.

All I am asking of us is to do a little better. A pebble’s worth. Since recording this, I have struggled in places and learned new ways to do better. It is a constant journey. As Dory said, “Just keep swimming”. Isabel focused on progress, not perfection. You don't have to go all in; jump in with 2 feet. You can do little bits or what works for you, your lifestyle, really. Just remember, there is no giving up.

You just have to begin.

Progress Over Perfection

Sustainable living isn’t about doing everything perfectly—it’s about doing something consistently.

Embrace the progress, not perfection. These small consistent actions, like choosing the right cleaners or recycling, do add up. Turning off the tap while you brush your teeth can feel like such a little thing, but each tiny act is indeed like that pebble thrown into the water, creating a ripple that grows bigger the farther it goes from its central point.

And those ripples? They add up.

Every Day Is Earth Day

This is our home. Yesterday was yesterday. Today is Earth Day, no matter what the calendar says.

What is one thing you can do a day that is better for the earth?

Small Actions Create Big Impact

It’s easy to underestimate the power of small habits, but consistency is where change lives.

  • Turn off running water when not in use
  • Swap disposable items for reusable ones
  • Make mindful purchasing decisions
  • Reduce waste where possible
